Advantages of Gas Station Credit Cards

Gas station credit cards are still enjoying popularity in the market. Despite the introduction of gas rewards credit cards, there are still people who apply for gas cards from their chosen gasoline stations.

Why are the advantages of owning a gas station card?
Unlike regular credit cards, it is easier to get a gas station card. This is because gasoline stations often have less strict requirements than banks or credit card companies. Anyone can easily get approved for a gas station card as long as he has a proof of identification or driver’s license.

Credit history is not a requirement for getting a gas card. In fact, these cards can be used to establish credit history or to rebuild bad credit as well. If you have a problem getting approved for a regular credit card because of a low credit score, you may start with a gasoline station card first.

Furthermore, a gas station credit card is often limited for gas purchases made from the gasoline company that issued your card. This credit card cannot be used on grocery stores, drug stores, boutiques and other merchants.

However, despite its limitations, a gas station credit card can be an efficient tool in establishing or rebuilding bad credit. How? As long as you pay off your balances on time each month, you can slowly build up your credit.

Make sure that your gas credit card issuer reports your payments to the major credit bureaus as this is the only way your credit history will improve. Also, be aware that these cards often have higher interest charges that regular credit cards so they must be used with caution.
